Archaeology. The science of studying ancient civilizations. But what is the etymology of this word?
It originates from Greek Αρχαιολογία (Archeologia) that is composed of the Greek word Αρχαίος (meaning Ancient) and ολογία(ologia – that comes from Greek word λόγος logos meaning speaking. So it is speaking about the ancients.
Logos of course has many meanings and we will analyse it in the future further. Some of them mean logic, words, speaking and many other.
Αρχαίος (Archeos) originates from the Greek word Αρχή (beginning) so ancient people in Greek means people that lived at the beginning of human civilization.
