Etymology and Origin:
The term “sociology” was coined in the early 19th century by the French philosopher Auguste Comte. It derives from the Latin word “socius”, meaning “companion, ally” and the Greek word “logos”, meaning “study of, speech”. Comte envisioned sociology as a new scientific discipline that would encompass all aspects of human society, distinguishing it from other sciences by its focus on social relationships and institutions.
